At our clinic, we believe that stress-free handling is essential to providing the best possible veterinary care. Veterinary visits can be overwhelming for pets, and stress can impact not only their emotional well-being but also their physical health and the accuracy of our exams. By minimizing fear and anxiety, we create a safer, more positive experience for both pets and their owners.
To help reduce stress, you may occasionally be asked to wait in your car until an exam room is ready. This helps limit noise, crowding, and stimulation in the waiting area, allowing your pet to enter a calmer environment. Inside the hospital, we use pheromone therapy, including products like Feliway for cats and Adaptil (formerly DAP) for dogs. These synthetic pheromones mimic the natural calming signals animals use to communicate safety and comfort, helping to reduce anxiety during their visit.
Our team is trained in gentle, low-stress handling techniques - moving slowly, offering treats and praise, and allowing pets to remain where they feel most comfortable. We also take extra steps for our feline patients, including using separate, warm towels designated just for cats to provide both comfort and species-specific scent control.
We carefully watch each pet’s body language and adjust our approach as needed. If a pet becomes too stressed, we pause and modify the plan rather than forcing the experience. We also encourage “happy visits,” which are brief, positive, pre-scheduled visits with our reception team that mimic the exam process. These visits help nervous pets build confidence and create positive associations with coming to the clinic. By prioritizing comfort, patience, and trust, we’re able to provide more accurate care, create better experiences, and help make every visit easier for your pet.
